Silicon Valley Bank is undergoing rapid expansion and is such is hiring an experienced, knowledgeable and dynamic Head of Operations for their FX and B2B payments functions.

You will manage a team of between 5-10 employees. You will lead, coach, mentor and “think on your feet” to ensure that business deliverables are met in an ever changing environment whilst ensuring staff feel empowered and supported to take responsibility for the multiple daily decisions required in an operations team as well as their own personal and professional development. Effective delegation will be key to deliver against key goals.

The ability to manage “Business As Usual (BAU)” and also the multiple projects and initiatives across the teams will be important deliverables. Acting at pace, with urgency and control together with the ability to focus on the key risks and service excellence across the breadth of the activities are crucial attributes of the ideal candidate. The capability to take ownership and responsibility of BAU and the change agenda allowing the Head of UK Operations and Client Support to focus on strategic projects and initiatives are also key to the success of the candidate
As the business grows and scales the role will not only be about managing to deadlines and SLAs within BAU but will also be responsible for deploying the SME resources to multiple enterprise wide and local projects and initiatives. Multi-tasking on a large scale in a controlled manner with the ability to ask the right questions and the next question to make key decisions in sometimes short timelines and demonstrate solid judgment is also key. At times the Senior Manager UK Transaction Banking will also sponsor some initiatives especially Change Requests that are core to the improvement in efficiency within their teams
You will report to the Head of UK Operations and Client Support and will support the Bank’s UK based operations with specific line responsibility for personnel in the following operations:

• Electronic payment operations
• General ledger reconciliation
• Exception and research services
• Foreign exchange operations
• Operational Risk oversight and management

Key will be to continually develop talent and develop successors and talent pools for key positions, unleash the full potential of individuals, and promote a positive image of SVB in the UK marketplace

A “continuous improvement” focus is required to drive improvements in efficiency and to spot opportunities to automate, simplify and streamline together with the ability to drive such a culture through the teams
A global mindset is also crucial, being able to collaborate with global colleagues and partners, share best practice and identify global and local solutions that support the client and the business
Create an open channel of communication where staff can express opinions, ideas and concepts
The role also incorporates ownership of the teams Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans and Incident Management handling.

It will be key to build and cultivate partnerships with colleagues in SVB operations, IT, sales, and service to create efficiencies, effectiveness, and to ensure the correct level of control is in place to support the UK business

Set specific and measurable goals for the group that are aligned with SVB’s strategic goals

Keep abreast of best practices and changes in the market in order to assess, propose and implement new approaches related to the effectiveness and efficiency of the team

Create an environment that inspires creative thinking, innovation and motivation

This individual will have progressive experience in UK banking operations and past experience working within the regulatory environment within a complex, compliance-based environment. Banking experience should cover FX, bacs, swift, chaps,aml, kyc, international payments, faster payments.
You will have insight into large-scale transaction processing in an international setting, as well as strong management competency in systems implementation/optimisation to support such an environment.
You should possess a high level of energy and initiative, be capable of functioning as a collaborative partner and value-added business contributor to the UK operations and service management team. An ability to ‘lead’ and ‘do’; providing leadership, direction and support to the team as well as personally produce work, including operational forward thinking presentations, performance data and risk management oversight.
Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, organizational, prioritization, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills. You will bring a positive energy, “spirit of collaboration” and partnership to the function building effective relationships across the various stakeholders/disciplines involved in any given initiative to work towards the common business goals.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills and ability to communicate with leadership across business teams.
In style, the individual will be consultative versus directive and able to weigh options/alternatives effectively.
