The Position:

MATRIX-IFS is seeking a IT-oriented AML Sanctions/Business Analyst. The AML Sanctions BA acts as the intermediary between business and technology departments by gathering, interpreting, and analysing requirements, writing specifications and design documents, and helping to develop solutions for complex business issues. A business analyst is expected to be able to assist in determining effective, innovative, and timely solutions to these issues and translate often difficult concepts and issues from business to technology and vice versa. As a part of the position, a business analyst is expected to develop an understanding of the existing systems, the underlying data and workflow associated with those systems, the problems and limitations associated with both, and the available methods of resolving the identified business issues. Responsibilities:

  • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Work within Compliance Technology team to interact with business users, determine requirements, perform gap analysis on existing systems, and prioritize issues
  • Work closely with other technology teams to convey and interpret requirements, analyze and evaluate data needed to meet the requirements, and QA the resultant development
  • Authoring Functional Specification Documents (FSD) and test cases.
  • Strong understanding of, or the ability to quickly gain such, of applicable laws, regulations, and guidance in the subject area as well as the desire to keep up with changes in a complex environment
  • Provide professional services expertise and leadership to client projects and implementations
  • Conduct client workshops, assessments, and strategic planning activities
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years' experience as a business analyst in the financial industry in surveillance at consulting firms, product vendors, or banks.
  • Strong data analysis skills (SQL)
  • Understanding of AML or Trade Surveillance concepts in several of the following areas:
    • Transaction Monitoring
    • AML
    • KYC/CIP
    • CDD
    • OFAC
    • Suspicious Activity Reporting
    • Proficient in SQL from a query perspective on a large database platform (eg DB2, Oracle, Sybase, etc.)
    • Strong background in Equity and derivative trading at a major broker dealer or exchange. Understanding in Order and Execution Flow.
    • Familiarity with one or more of the leading Trade AML/Surveillance solutions: Actimize, Oracle (Mantas), SMARTS Compliance. Experience with other financial crime or case management solutions a plus.
    • Excellent knowledge of investment banking business, systems, and data.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
    • Confidence communicating with and advising senior executives
    • Proactive and self-starting
    • Detail and quality oriented
    • BS degree - advanced degree a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CAMS or other related certification
  • Knowledge and understanding of international regulatory agencies
  • Technical proficiency in at least 1 programming language
  • Data gap and cleansing experience
  • Workflow analysis and streamlining
  • Analytics/statistics/computer science experience or degree
  • Business analysis or project management background
