Fintech has the ability to significantly alter the structure of the financial system. A new "Fintech Hub" has been created to lead work on understanding the impact of fintech on the Bank's Mission and oversee the fintech work of other areas of the Bank.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Fintech Hub for a Fintech Analyst, who will play a crucial role in the Hub, managing interactions with other areas of the Bank undertaking fintech work, briefing the Governors and the senior leadership team on a regular basis, managing our external correspondence and analysing the impact of specific fintech developments on the Bank's Mission.

The role would suit an energetic, and organised individual, who wishes to be deeply engaged with the Bank's work on fintech and help to drive the Bank's engagement in the sector.

The Fintech Hub is a cross-Bank resource; it sits in the Banking, Payments and Financial Resilience Directorate.

New technology could fundamentally impact the financial system and new entities could emerge offering financial services. It is important that the Bank understands fintech developments and considers the risks and opportunities it offers for its Mission. The Bank also needs to consider whether new technologies should be adopted to enhance the efficiency of its own operations and as a regulator.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Fintech Hub for an analyst to contribute to the work across the team. The responsibilities for the Fintech Analyst will include:
  • Managing and preparing briefings on the broad range of fintech subjects that the team receive from senior leadership across the Bank;
  • Developing and maintaining internal relationships, and influencing other areas of the Bank working on fintech;
  • Engaging with other areas of the Bank on the wide range of international and European work on Fintech related subjects, ensuring the Bank's position is well informed and consistently presented;
  • Engaging with external stakeholders on fintech related issues, including fintech firms, and other regulatory and governmental bodies (such as HMT and FCA);
  • Managing and coordinating communications for the team, including numerous enquiries that the team receives externally;
  • Analysing and summarising fintech reports produced externally to identify and highlight issues that are of most relevance to the Bank's mission;
  • Disseminating information relevant to the Bank's mission in a clear concise and non-technical manner;
  • "Owning" specific fintech topics, including horizon scanning and engaging with internal and external stakeholders where relevant.

The jobholder will work alongside 3 Senior Fintech Specialists and a Senior Manager. As a small team, all members of the Fintech Hub need to work nimbly and flexibly together, covering and supporting each other to focus on what matters most for the Bank's Mission.

Role Requirements

Necessary Criteria
  • An interest in fintech and a willingness to develop an in depth knowledge;
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral, with an ability to convey complex information to non-experts by drawing out key messages and using non-technical language;
  • Ability to synthesise different sources of data to inform a view on the emerging themes of relevance to the Bank's Mission;
  • Flexibility to handle a range of demands, ability to balance a wide range of work with differing timetables;
  • Good workload management and organisation skills, to balance a wide range of work with short deadlines, and an a bility to prioritise effectively and deliver under pressure;
  • A strong understanding of the context of the work of the Bank;
  • Ability to credibly represent the Bank internally and externally;
  • A collaborative working style.




Desirable Criteria
  • Good knowledge of fintech developments, or strong technology background;
  • Experience or detailed understanding of the Bank's framework for considering financial stability risks and benefits;
  • Sound understanding of the business models of banks or other financial institutions;
  • Knowledge of the Bank's policy committees.
